Yup. Are you using the "C" locale, or a proper locale like en_US? Gentoo
surely ships UTF-8 English locales like en_US.UTF-8 and en_GB.UTF-8.

This is a nice step to do. If you read mail on a curses based email, you
will not see "?????" Subjects again. Instead, you'll get super-cool
Chinese, Cyrillic or Hebrew characters all over the place. Which is the
#1 feature Unicode brings to us text mode users. ;)

David, this is one of the most asked questions regarding nano's UTF-8
support. Do you think we could do cheats like vim in 1.6, or would that
be a major rewrite of the core?
