Or pre1 and earlier are just looking more and more buggy.  Sorry about 
the new string in CVS btw Jordi, but it needed to be done.  That may not 
be the error that pre2 uses (I'm starting to think that "Unable to 
compile regex" is better than "Invalid regex") fyi.  Feedback on that 
string issue welcome.
