oh crap, you're right. There's a couple of problems. I think I might
have used a bad version of automake. And for some reason it does not
build a shared version of the library by default anymore. That problem
could be related to libtool.

I'll do a fixed 0.4.2.1 tomorrow. Lesson learned: always test all parts
of the build (and the program) before releasing.
