[Monotone-devel] compatibility of 0.40 and 0.41 question

Hi,

We are serving several monotone databases via the internet. The
servers are running a statically linked 0.40 monotone executable,
downloaded from the monotone website. This is very convenient for us.

Today, a member of the development team reinstalled his laptop from
scratch, installed a monotone 0.41, also downloaded from the monotone
website.

He initializes a new database, then pulls from the server, but gets
the error message:
mtn: misuse: database
/home/epokh/neurospaces_project/MTN/neurospaces-developer.mtn is laid
out according to an old schema

Here is the full log, showing this mixed in with the output of the
script that calls monotone to pull the server:

address@hidden:~/neurospaces/installer-python-3# neurospaces_pull
/usr/local/bin/neurospaces_build: package installer [mkdir --parents
/home/epokh/neurospaces_project/MTN] executing
/usr/local/bin/neurospaces_build: package installer [test -f
/home/epokh/neurospaces_project/MTN/neurospaces-developer.mtn || mtn
--db /home/epokh/neurospaces_project/MTN/neurospaces-developer.mtn db
init] executing
/usr/local/bin/neurospaces_build: package installer [mtn --db
/home/epokh/neurospaces_project/MTN/neurospaces-developer.mtn pull
virtual2.cbi.utsa.edu:4696 "*"] executing
mtn: misuse: database
/home/epokh/neurospaces_project/MTN/neurospaces-developer.mtn is laid
out according to an old schema

I am surprised that a 0.41 monotone executable cannot trivially pull a
0.40 database.

So the question is a very general one: what is exactly the policy for
different monotone versions pulling, pushing and syncing databases?

Thanks,
