I'd be surprised if it is OSX specific (not saying that's impossible,  
just surprising).

What OS is the server running?  Can you try it on a linux box from  
behind the firewall?  A different OSX box?

N.B. I'm asking questions about OS because you brought it up.  I  
think it is more likely to be a config problem somewhere.  Not sure  
what problem that would be though.

Hrm - which OS X binary are you using?  The one from the monotone  
home page?
