Hi, I've been looking at monotone, and I'm very interested in trying it out. However, it does seem to be missing one feature that is pretty important for my usage -- something like CVS aliases (or subversion externals).
there is a general UI feature in the works called "restrictions", which permit you to work on a subset of the directories in a working copy (and also control work from subdirectories of the working copy) by masking out portions of the manifest during an operation.
I suspect something like aliases will develop out of this work too, considering a named grouping as a subset of all subdirectories under the root, rather than "extra directories beyond the root". alas, at the moment there is no such feature: a checkout is always from the root of your manifest, and always includes all directories under it.
