It depends on what the "symptoms" of connected usb disk are. The
simplest solution will probably be to use the "check file ..." with
content test on logfile, which will most probably contain some message
about the added disk.
The content description and example is here:

Hi,
I need to execute a script when a usb disk is connected to my ubuntu
machine. Just wondering whether monit can be used to do this?
From what I have read so far.. it seems possible to run programs
when a device becomes unavailable or file is no longer there.. but
what about reverse? Can anyone point me to appropriate examples.
Thanks,
Pete
