Many thanks, it worked. For those of you who are interested:

zypper in kernel-source make gcc automake autoconf
rpm -ivh
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.0/standard/src/monit-4.10.1-40.1.src.rpm
rpmbuild -bb /usr/src/packages/SPECS/monit.spec
rpm -Uvh /usr/src/packages/RPMS/i586/monit-4.10.1-40.1.i586.rpm
(or if an older version wasn't installed: rpm -ivh
/usr/src/packages/RPMS/i586/monit-4.10.1-40.1.i586.rpm )

Or drop me an e-mail if you want the package (compiled on SLES10sp1).

Martin, have you thought about using buildservice to automatically create cross
distribution packages?
"The openSUSE Build Service is the only service that allows developers to
package software for all major Linux distributions."
--> https://build.opensuse.org/

Very powerful apparently...

Thanks again

Olivier

We don't have build machine for SLES, but the building of RPM package
is very easy in general and you can build it yourself:

1.) get the monit SRPM package for 4.10.1 from OpenSUSE:
monit-4.10.1-40.1.src.rpm

2.) install the package ... it will deploy the sources and spec file
(package template)

3.) run "rpmbuild -bb monit.spec" ... it will produce the binary package
