Ah. I found the problem in configure.in:
elif test `uname` = "FreeBSD"
then
ARCH="FREEBSD"
and later:
if test "$ARCH" = "FreeBSD"
then
LIBS="-pthread $LIBS"
fi
I'll check this in. Things work now.
