Personally, I type "giFTcurs", and it works (mostly).

Port 4000 uses MLDonkey's own GUI protocol, you must connect to port 1213 :
# netstat -ltnp|grep 1213
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:1213 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN
