The update macros are working, however, log4cxx fails to build with newer apr* versions, so I've ignored them for the time being. If you want to test the newer versions, remove them from $(PKG)_IGNORE and run

make update PKGS='apr apr-util'

Nice timing - I was just updating my systems here for the move to github and looking at reposting updated .mk files. I'll test these right away and send a pull request with updates if needed.
