I also need the complete log file, i.e.:

    /home/ron/src/mingw_cross_env/log/expat

The output of mingw-cross-env which you quoted
shows only the last few lines of that file.

Since this is a really, really strange error,
I need as much information as possible.

BTW, what's the output of

    gzip --version

on your system?
