-  Breve CV:

Manuel Carro got his PhD in Computer Science from the Technical
University of Madrid, where he is currently assistant professor.  He
as focused his researchwork on logic and constraint programming,
specifically in the areas of design and implementation abstract
machines for sequential and parallel systems, optimizaing compilation,
debugging, visualization, and concurrency in logic programming.  He is
one of the key architects of the Ciao Prolog systems, which stands out
as being one of the most flexible and extensible presently available,
while retaining very competitive performance and has been downloaded
by thousands of programmers worldwide.  Ciao Prolog is an Open Source
product.  He as highly interested in Open Source Software, its use for
building and deploying real systems, and its deep implications in the
research model of Computer Science and Mathematics.  He is currently
the key researcher of an EU-sponsored project studying semi-formal
approaches to the selection of OSS components.  He has also
participated in more than 12 international and 5 national research
projects so far, published a good number of papers in international
journals, conferences, and workshops, and served as PC member and
organizer in a good number of international conferences.
