I just tried to open an http site with lynx ( https://duckduckgo.com/ ),
it worked. My version:

libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, GNUTLS 2.12.18, ncurses 5.9.20110404(wide)
Built on linux-gnu Mar 25 2012 11:14:04
from Debian repos.
