The --enable-widec option would work if the default curses library uses
wide-characters.
It's more likely that
--with-screen=ncursesw
will do what you want.

"lynx -version" will tell what library you are using, e.g.,
Lynx Version 2.8.8pre.4 (11 Jan 2014)
