You imply testing against a lot. I think it is fairly common to test against about three: IE, one back version of IE, and the current Firefox.

You are however correct that most web sites either are advertising, or vehicles for selling advertising, which is not what the web was intended to be.

RFC1855 says there should be an address here, but, in a world of spam,
that is no longer good advice, as archive address hiding may not work.
