It depends - just to get the program up for use, you'll need to have
a way to display results.  I'd start by making it able to display
local files, stubbing out platform problems, then work on the networking.

yes (there's no threading, but some subprocess stuff, e..g., in NSL_FORK

there is threading for win32 port
