yes, i appreciate your detailed reply & will store it in my archives,
but it's far too complicated to expect an ordinary user to employ.
also, i would have to install Screen on my system, adding to bloat there.
and can you in fact have  > 1  instance of Screen running simultaneously ?

So, we avoid "bloat" by adding features? Screen weighs in at less than 1MB on my platform, a quarter of the size of lynx, so if you want that functionality, there's no reason you can't install it. Adding the same functionality and code to lynx, where everyone would get it, whether they intend to use it, or not, would rather be the "bloaty" thing (...and yes, you can have more than one screen running).
