If we want to settle the issue once and for all, maybe one should go for an
option to decide whether or not to send your email address or a per site basis.
If the site was ftp.cyberpromo.com then sending your email address might be a
bad idea. However I am happy to send my email address to sites like
ftp.mirrors.ac.uk, and other large and well known ftp sites. It is extermely
unliekly hensa passes on any email addrresses sent to anyone else (or even
collects them).

A few ftp sites will actualy check what your give as a password is a RFC 822
complaint email address and deny you accesss otherwise. Many sites will log the
source IP, the result of a reverese DNS lookup, and an ident response for the
connection. Constructing an email address from this, given a version of ident
that reveals user names, is not rocket science.

My email address may be personal but it is not secret (ditto my postal address
and telephone number).
