Have you tried ^Ve ?, if the field has more than one line this will force
the text to be edited with your pre-defined editor. Maybe you can insert
the tab character like that. When I tried this the "TAB" character was
read as "several blank spaces" but I do not know if this was because of
the editor I used (pico).
