Ok, well DEC_8bit_HACK is no longer there but the code is still ifdef'd.
I undefined the offending macro and rebuilt slang, then relinked lynx and
it now works! Thanks Klaus for saving me some extra code reading.
(As a former colleague once said, reading someone else's code is like
skatology...:)
