I think there's some validity to that, but as a counter-example, I use
this PC pretty much as a dedicated telnet terminal. Maybe once or twice
a year I want to unzip something, and I just don't bother keeping a
tool around when it's so easy to grab it, use it, discard it.
Self-extraction is a mild convenience. The cow-orkers using this PC,
however, are definitely the computer non-literates you mention, and do
much to support your reasoning.
Self *installers*, now, them I dislike. I like to know what's going
on, and having the process hidden away makes me nervous.
