The name of the switch should not be changed.

It's a known problem that Lynx has many "switches" which are actually
toggles.  This should eventually be fixed.  One proposed fix that just
went by was to allow them to accept an optional value:

  -show_cursor       -- toggles default
  -show_cursor=on    -- turns show_cursor on
  -show_cursor=off   -- turns show_cursor off

The original poster's problem would still have occurred, but (as several
people have pointed out) there's no way Lynx can fully compensate for
people who do not read the documentation.
