virtunix was just the distribution source. It is a freeware unzip program
that I was referring to:
UnZip 5.12 of 28 August 1994, by Info-ZIP. Portions (c) 1989 by S. H.
Smith.
It unzips subdirectories by default and supports long file names at the
command line level.
I also have my win95 set to not use that ~ filename garbage unless it
encounters more than one filename with the same name in 8.3 space (such as
CHANGES2-3 and CHANGES2-4 but not newfiles.chartrans and
newfiles.configure).
I guess that makes my setup pretty unusual.
