To understand your range of options, you should at least carefully read

 The FDISK.COM DOS Internet Pages

One key question is if your daughter already uses the DOS screen reader
or if this is a new purchase?  

You have to consider the cost to you in system operator training and
activity as you trade off DOS, Win95, Linux, SCO, etc. solutions.
