Here is some feedback from one of the people using the numbered_forms patch.
Since he gave me permission to forward his comments, I'm including them below.
He is blind and uses braille.
(Oh, and I should mention he was using the DEVEL CODE based version at the
time, although he now also has a copy of the fotemods based version...)
