Philip,

It's open house at the community medical center. There's also a brain
surgeons' convention in progress. The signs are unclear, the center is
poorly laid out, few employees and fewer visitors know what's going on.
You walked in the wrong door.
 
Non-surgeons can keep up with the proceedings, but only after a lot of
study. They can contribute, because not even the top specialist knows
everything about all the fields that impinge on the subject. But keep
in mind where you are, and what these people are here for.

Note also that they use words in strange ways. Everyone out there is a
"user." An experienced programmer who maintains a mainframe used by
thousands of people is a "user"; Joe Blow who never touched a computer
before sitting down at a terminal in a public library is also a "user."

So remember where you are, learn what you can, and remind these people
(gently, ever so gently) about the outside world every now and then....
