I can't conceive a scenario where something happens to the config of a netif and I'm not aware of it. High-level guys, please enlighten me.
That's not too hard: just imagine a webserver front-end that should show dhcp state without depending on the lwip or board port. It's just cleaner code to not depend on who enables dhcp or when or how but just get the real state from dhcp.c.
