I am using 0.6.3, but going through the API differences I assume that
there is no real difference to 0.6.4.
How do I enable non blocking support?

Which version of lwip are you using? Non-blocking sockets are supported
in the current DEVEL tree. I don't think it is a very recent addition,
but I suppose it's possible it's not made it as far as the last stable
release.
