As far as I know the ping application has not been ported to use lwIP.
I'm working on this at the moment, but it requires a number of features
(raw sockets for example) that the stack does not currently support. You
can ping a machine running lwIP from a normal machine without any problem,
and lwIP will reply, but there's no easy way at present to get an lwIP
machine to initiate ICMP packets.
