Hello everyone,

on the topic of CVS; please remember that Adam Dunkels, the
author of lwIP, already had opened a project at sourceforge.net
for further development/contributions to the lwIP stack.

It looks like we can proceed with that in a day or so!!!

[Adam has emailed me yesterday; see email far below.]

Adam Dunkels is very busy with a new project and had given
go-ahead to have me setup a public lwIP CVS. Then, I encountered
a backfire from both http://www.sourceforge.net and=20
http://savannah.nongnu.org about the exact wording of the
BSD license.

I have been given OK by Adam to modify the license towards the
modified BSD license.

Of course, I welcome the active approach in some people willing
to spend some effort setting up a CVS server (which was plan B)
but I now think we should proceed with plan A, which is to host
the lwIP tree at sourceforge.net and savannah.nongnu.org, and to
continue what Adam Dunkels gave us.

The lwIP stack development tree then remains independent of third
parties to rely on.

I suggest we follow this plan:

0) Contribute project (done) to savannah + sourceforge (both)
1) Await acceptance (in progress, any day)
2) Choose savannah or sourceforge
3) Commit current lwIP CVS
4) Discuss file tree layout (do we need changes?)
5) Integrate all verified mailing list patches
6) Integrate additionals.

With kind regards,

Leon Woestenberg.

Hi!

First, big thanks for being so patient with me! I'm really sorry for not
having been more active lately... But now I figured that getting this
out of my hands and into yours would be a relief :-)

The license change is very much allright, no problems with me or with
SICS. Although I'm not sure that it is really necessary, since the
clause says "[...] without specific prior written permission.". I guess
this means that if someone has contributed software, thay can simply get
written permission from themselves :-)

In fact, when thinking more about it, I think that the clause should be
as it is. The problem I see is that a clause that says "The name of the
institute may not be used [...]" would make it possible for people to
use the names of everyone who contributed to the code in the
advertisment.

Anyway, would you like to go with sourceforge, or someplace else? I have
added you as a project admin on sourceforge. I can mail you the homepage
source code also.

I just saw a couple of messages on the list about someone else
volunteering CVS space, what do you think about that?=20

In any case, I would suggest going for a relatively small bunch of
people with write access: me, you, Kieran, Florian would perhaps be a
good start.

Thanks,

/adam
