Simon is getting wise to my way of thinking. I am not against a branch
which gets only bug fixes, as long as someone is going to do all the
work of porting the fixes across from the development branch. At the
moment we have very little spare developer resource, and I'd rather see
the development tip get broken every now and then than use up that
valuable developer resource porting and testing fixes on different
branches. The downside of the current approach is that the development
tip is not always suitable for stable work (as you've discovered), but I
do hope that any major problems (like the one you've highlighted) get
quickly fixed and so are at least rare. For true stability with the
current system people are forced to stick with 1.4.0, which is also not
ideal as they then don't pick up bug fixes made on the tip until the
next release. That is "good enough" for many people, but if there are
users like Leon who need something better than that, and people care
enough to put in the work of maintaining the bug-fix branch, I would be
very pleased to see it.
