Follow-up Comment #12, task #7136 (project lwip):

Agreed about keeping all the user-tunable stuff in one place: I know the
documentation that Jared is working on will help this a lot, but there is lots
of confusion already among new users about how to configure the stack, so
simple, easy, and in one place is better.

Checking dependencies is also a good idea, but essentially a separate issue. 
Feel free to raise a bug/task for that.

I like the aesthetic changes in comment #9
