@ItemPlace problem

If anyone can help me I'd be very grateful. I have reduced the problem
as much as is reasonable and would like to know how to get rid of the
error messages I keep getting and print the list.

Source file (in /tmp/ZZ1.lout) is:
---------------
@SysInclude {doc}

@Doc @Text @Begin

@List
@LI { Item 1 }
@LI { Item 2 }
@EndList

@End @Text

# vim: ft=loutm4
---------------
After obeying: lout /tmp/ZZ1.lout > /tmp/x1.ps
the list is not printed and the error message displayed on console is:
---------------
lout file "/tmp/ZZ1.lout":
     6,1: no @ItemPlace galley target precedes this @ItemPlace&&preceding
     8,1: no @EndListPlace galley target precedes this @EndListPlace&&preceding
---------------

I am using lout 3.24 with the Debian woody distribution for Linux.

Barrie.
