Abbreviations List

Does anyone know where the correct place to put a list of abbreviations is.
In-house documents here are produced using a well known Word processor
with the list in the front matter, just after the lists of contents and
figures.
Is there a way of doing this in Lout, or should I create an Appendix for it?
