Re: [Linphone-developers] linphone tcp/udp setting

From my usage experience ICE does not help much - sometimes get worse. So it is hardly to prefer ice or stun or even not to do anything but let the sip server adjust it if it supports it (and proxying media through the sip server rather than direct media). You have to experiment it with yourself.

For sip yes better to use TCP for 3G networks.

Hi, Steve:

Thanks for the reply.
In general, for a mobile phone, tcp is better than udp for sip setting.
ice is better than stun for firewall traversal.
Is this correct?

- sip can be used tcp or udp

- rtp always UDP for now no options

- ice - udp no options
-firewall policy. UDP rules and depends on sip if uses tcp then need to look at tcp rules as well.

For good reliable network sip should use UDP for shorter response.
For not so reliable or 3G network or save battery in mobile phone, use tcp.

For new version of linphone I can not use UDP for sip not sure if any one has same problem? Also the remote provisioning stop working so I already back to older version. The proxy setting for tcp and udp in the new version does appear in the GUI but seems it has a bug.

I am a little bit confused with how to set up the protocol for linphone.
This is the matrix I come out:
sip: tcp/udp
proxy: tcp/udp
rtp: udp
stun: udp
ice: udp
firewall policy: udp

So I need to make selection for sip and proxy. And for others, it is always udp.
Which protocol is better for sip and proxy? tcp or udp?
How to specify it for proxy?
Thanks.

George
