Hey Adrian,
the console directory actually contains an interactive application called "linphonec" for placing and taking calls as well as doing most of the configuration needed beforehand.
I personally wrote some code which does not even use the console app (except for configuration) but implements an interface to a USB handset using the liblinphone backend for SIP stuff. I had to extend the API a bit though... If you like, have a look at http://www.devbase.at/voip/yeaphone.php.

  Is there a linphone console app which does not use a GUI at all?  (obviously such an app would not support video!)  In the "console" directory of the build I have, there is some code, but it looks like it is for building some kind of automatic test device for auto-answering sip calls... not for actually running linphone.  Does anyone out there have any such code that they have written that they would like to share? :)
