Well, you know an undocumented command does not exist, so to speak...
Maybe it would be a step forward to replace stemUp/Down with
\voiceXxxx everywhere in our docs and the LSR, unless it is really
needed.
A very quick glance offered only one snippet where stemUp/Down is
reasonable: Stem and Slur in different directions.
