Sure, it would lead to fewer initial misunderstandings but make entry
less convenient.  MusicXML is easy to understand "in principle" but
awfully inconvenient and illegible.

LilyPond syntax is foremost serving the humans entering and reading
music routinely.  I don't think that in this case the advantage for
initial learning would offset the inconvenience for sustained use.

So I see it more as a documentation challenge than a design failure.
