video generation

I've been wanting to generate videos from lilypond, and so far it seems like the best approach (scrolling, rather than paginated) is:

I wanted to see if anyone else (besides the author of that approach) has been able to get this to work.

Also, for anyone who has been able to get this to work, are you using Mac OSX?  That's what I'm working on, and I've had some issues getting dependencies installed.  Just wondering if this is actually possible on Mac OSX.

Or, are there other video-generation approaches I should look into besides this one?
