I had a similar problem using MarkLine (http://lsr.di.unimi.it/LSR/Item?id=1010) referred by http://lilypond.org/doc/v2.19/Documentation/snippets/contexts-and-engravers#contexts-and-engravers-using-marklines-in-a-frenched-score I used \set MarkLine.rehearsalMark = #6 in that case.
