Did you try pdfbook (brochure-generation wrapper for pdfjam, which again is a commandline frontend for LaTeX's pdfpages):
pdfbook --paper a3paper --noautoscale true -o output-a3.pdf input-a4.pdf Of course, there's a bunch of other options; check `pdfjam -h`. HTH, Alexander
