Lilypond is intended for evaluating code, not for altering it.
It’s perfectly fine to leave this tool for user interface software like Frescobaldi or Denemo.

The relative2absolute tool used by Frescobaldi and other useful stuff actually is available from the commandline (but not as a part of LilyPond of course) since a while back.
