I am not an expert on guitar chord notation, but more generally it is possible for the 7th to be a suspension, for example the inganno interruption (found in fugues and the like) produces a suspended seventh that usually resolves to a 6th.

As to the second part of your post I would say you are probably better off not removing items from chord symbols to save space unless you are absolutely sure it will not create ambiguity (which responses here suggest it might).
