Mike, I like the idea. The ability to have some formatting is good (e.g. to highlight code fragments) and being able to search is nice. Of course the key thing is to have the people who know lilypond really well using it too :-) (that excludes me!) I had posted a few initial lilypond questions on StackOverflow.com and received some good responses.
I’ve found S.O. to be a very user-friendly format for coding questions and answers (in terms of ease of posting and reading code/syntax) and am curious that the lilypond community isn’t making more use of it.

Check out stackexchange when you get a chance - it is made by the same company that makes stackoverflow and is likely a better forum for lilypond related exchange.
