which notes should cross staves? - the notes of the 1st quarter are outside
of the \crossStaff {} and the others are not simultaneous.

ad 2) \crossStaff obviously does not handle beamed notes and forgets flags
if you don't stop explicitly automatic beaming (\autoBeamOff)

furthermore I guess (the docs don't say much …) you have to specify
\crossStaff in the staff whose notes are to cross the staff, i.e. in your
example in the lower staff.

maybe somebody with deeper insight can give more details on how to use it!?
