Hi,

I've been using command line only, self compiled version of Lilypond for 2 
years now. The lilypond and lilypond-devel in macports are updated very 
regularly.

I'm now running 2.17.1 on mountain lion.

This version if 3-4 times faster (at least last times I compared with 2.14 
versions) than the official binary. I don't know why but it may be because it 
uses more recent libraries or compilers.

The user interface of Lilypond on mac os is extremely limited, even compared to 
textedit, the only thing it has is to be able to click on the preview and get 
the cursor in the source. I would recommend using Frescobaldi.
