Henning if you still get this output with .31 can you check if the f 
Chord is really missing not just 'hidden' behind the stave lines - see 
my screenshot in the original message.

What I have also found is that this only occurs if I use the construct 
with a \new PianoStaff or \new GrandStaff all other \new staffgroups are 
fine and if I remove the staff group entirely and just use << >> construct.

What maybe obvious to some is that only these two Staff groups put the 
chords 'below' the two systems rather than above. This maybe significant 
too.
