push beginning of second verse 8 measures into the song

I am working on a song that has the second verse starting midway thruthe first verse, on a DS al Fine. I tried to place a \skip xx where xxis the number of notes to skip but only skipped a couple notes. What isthe correct way to push the lyrics further into the melody skipping thefirst 8 bars of music?
