Automatic beaming of dotted quavers

How can I get Lilypond to beam dotted quavers in 12/16 as 2 pairs per bar automatically, while retaining its default behaviour of beaming semiquavers in 4 threes per bar? I've tried what I thought was the correct syntax, but it fails.
